Mei Ling

Mei Ling was the name of our 6 year old Chinese Shar Pei. She was a integral component in our family lives, and was unique and intelligent in many ways. Mei Ling unexpectedly collapsed at home and went into convulsions. Immediately after the seizure episode, she took a final gasp and died in my wife's arms.

Mei Ling has never had any health issues, and this tragedy unfolded unexpectedly. Our grief is so intense, and I am tortured by my memories of her in every room I walk in. I found her favorite stuffed toy in my office, and can still smell her on her toys. The tears of pain flow, and the pain of her loss is intense. Our sweet Mei Ling passed away at 3pm on 4-22-99, and this was the first dog for my family. Our dog fulfilled a role that no human has fulfilled, mainly unconditional and unending love, true companionship, loyalty, non-prejudice, protection, humor, and total acceptance in us regardless of our transgressions. Mei Ling will always be our shining star, and I am proud my friends have had the good fortune to enjoy and meet this true special member of our family.

My heart goes to all pet owners that can truly understand the in depth relation you can have with your pet, and the tremendous pain you experience when that pet's life is taken at such a young age and unexpected moment. I do thank God for putting such incredible four legged companions on this earth to fill the void of lonliness and saturate our hearts with joy, love, peace, and undying companionship.
