Hinny
Little Ridge Heeni
Jan 31, 1985 to Oct 26, 1996.
Hinny was a Cardigan Corgi bitch, my first dog as an adult, and I had
hesitated for years about getting one because the circumstances were
difficult etc. Eventually I realised I would be dead before all the
circumstances could be right, so I went to see a breeder, and Hinny,
who was six months old, and until then decidedly aloof from people,
came crawling out to me. From then until she died of thyroid cancer
almost twelve years later we had a really special bond.
She put up
with living in a series of quite inadequate apartments in the various
tertiary colleges in which I taught, put up with students ... and all
teachers at whatever level know how tough that is!!! ... and didn't
care about any of that. She was truly a one man dog. She literally
did not care whether anyone else was there at all, as long as I was.
She kept me sane, kept me happy, gave herself totally to my welfare -
and I really never did repay her sufficiently, nor could I ever.
Missed forever by Guy Hartcher.
