Guinness

Robin & Guiness; Guiness (pup) with Haggis

We are so devastated at the tragic loss of our baby girl, Guinness.

She was the most beautiful little West Highland Terrier with the most loving nature I have ever known.

She was tragically killed around lunch time on Wed 8th Jan 2003 when grandpa partly reversed over her. I (Louise) berate myself because I ALWAYS check under the cars (the dogs are never there).... but this time, for some unknown reason, I did not check thinking that Guinness was inside with my little girl. And this time she was under the car. God alone knows how she got there .... I never saw her come out of the door .... she must have slipped behind the car ... and I never checked ....

I feel so guilty.

Can she ever forgive me? Her little life ended so quickly.

We rushed her to the vet. There was not a drop of blood. I had so much hope that she would survive because the wheel did not go over her and I could see no physical damage.

She took her last breath and slipped away from us in my 10 year old son's arms. I saw her eyes change ..... go dark.

The vet did her best to revive her but this time our prayers were not answered.

There is no sadder sound than that of the last heartbeat.

We live in Johannesberg, South Africa where the weather at this time of year is hot and sunny. Since Wed afternoon clouds and drizzle appeared from nowhere ..... like the world is weeping for her.

She was born on January 29th 2002 so she was not yet 1 year. She did not even get to see her 1st birthday.

So gentle a doggie I have never known. She was always asking for love and I have been so busy that I could not always give her the time. Am I being punished for not showing her enough love? I feel so responsible. I also did not take enough photo's. I put it off. I'll do it tomorrow. And now .. there is no tomorrow for Guinness. A very hard lesson indeed.

Guinness belonged to my 5 year old little girl Robin, who misses her so very much.

Guinness had a best friend - a female Scottish terrier called Haggis. Haggis is so lost without Guinness and is searching everywhere ....

I am so sorry Haggis

I am so sorry Guinness

I have never seen such good friends as what you two were.

In loving Memory and with thanks for all the love and fun you gave us Guinness - our little dancing bear - we miss you so much Guinness.
