Heather Elizabeth
Our Heather went to the Rainbow Bridge July 2, 2002. She was a wonderful girl and such a fun and bright dog to have around. We believe she died of heat exhaustion while we were at work. We left water and she had some shade but it was particularly hot and humid and it was just too much for her to take.
Heather was born on April 12, 1996 to Darcy, our Golden Retriever and Remo, our Boxer mix. She was one of 10 puppies and when she was just a week old, she wandered away from the litter to a corner and went without nursing for several hours. Had we not found her and put her back with the others, she would have died within the day.
And then at 6 weeks of age, they all came into contact with, what we found to be, was a parasite called cochsydia. Two of the pups did not make it and Darcy and Heather were both on the verge of death but they came through it after a couple weeks.
She was our special girl and we loved her so much. Her brother Jake (pg 72 on this site) were best of friends. Jakey died just 7 months ago and she had missed him.
Heather loved to run in the field and go "swimming" in the little creek. She would run out ahead of the 4-wheeler and when she came to the water, she would submerge herself as much as possible. She had just jumped a fawn out in the woods a few days ago and she had tried to keep up with it, but luckily, it was too quick for her. She also loved to go to the cabin and go swimming in the pond with Mark. They had just done that a couple weeks ago and she spent 20 minutes at a time just swimming and them going to Mark for him to support her while she rested in the water!
Heather hated storms, thunder and lightening. She would try to get in the house and a few weeks ago, she even went into the crawl space and made her way under the house, where she came up under the kitchen sink and broke in! We had never seen anything like this. She was such a smart dog and you could actually see her thinking sometimes.
We will miss you Heather Bug! We will keep you in our hearts and minds forever. Stay with all the others (Remo, Jake, Chloe, the puppies and Cassie) until we get there.
Sadly missed by your human Mom (Mendy) and Dad (Mark) and by mommy Darcy and sister Jesse. Also, by all family members who knew you. Rest well Sweetie and we will meet you at the Bridge someday.
