Buffy

My very best friends,Bonnie and Gary Pennington, just lost their Cocker Spaniel, Buffy.

She was truly a special dog and was loved by many many people who had the pleasure of traveling to Georgia football games in their motor homes with Buffy always aboard. Buffy has been more places than I have been and I'm 52 years old. She was never a problem - just as long as you didn't mess with her ears! She wasn't overly fond of kids once she got a little age on her - but hey, isn't that normal - most of us are less tolerant when we get "old and grumpy". A beautiful specimen of a Cocker Spaniel is a gross understatement for how gorgeous Buffy was.

Even at the end - 15 years old and still beautiful. Couldn't humans be so lucky! Buffy had her own place at the dinner table, and even when Bonnie and Gary were camping Buffy set in a chair or on a bench while they had dinner. She wouldn't touch a bite of food off the table - not even if you put it in front of her, until you told her it was okay and picked it up and handed it to her.

She knew the difference in begging for vegetables, meat, giving 5 or giving 4. She used her left or right paw - depended on the question. Now occasionally Gary would aggravate her about her food - she could turn from sweetheart to bit-h in 2.3 seconds over food and would not hesitate to show those big white teeth of hers. She thought a helicopter was a big bird and would bark whenever she heard one until the last few years when her hearing went.

She loved Kevin, Bonnie's son, but laid his lip open one time when she thought he was going to eat her deer meat that Bonnie had cooked! She loved everyone - and she only fought those little battles when someone picked on her deliberately. She loved to have her belly rubbed and would eat pop corn until it came out her ears. Chicken was her favorite but pop corn came in close.

We will miss Buffy. No doubt about it. She was very special to Emmett (my husband) and me and Bonnie and Gary will never even try to replace her. No other dog can feel her footprints. Rest in peace Buffy - we'll miss you but appreciate all the wonderful memories you left behind.
