Sassy
We rescued her because she was a "mix" and not a
"full-bred boxer". She was one of the smartest dogs
I've ever had, and I've had a lot of different kinds of
dogs in my time. She was full of personality and love for
our family. She loved to play in our big, fenced backyard.
A year ago, we were given a pure-bred boxer named Bitsy Boodle
that the mother rejected and we nursed back to health from the
age of two weeks. Sassy played an important role in keeping Bitsy
alive by licking her to stimulate her like a mother would. She was
always gentle with the little pup and as Bitsy grew bigger, they would
run, play tug-of-war, and
DIG in our backyard.
However, Sassy required alot of attention or she would get bored
and dig out, get in people's yards, and scare the people walking down
the street when she ran up to them to play. We kept the dogs inside
while we were here. We tried everything to keep her in her own yard.
Finally we had to chain her to a run-line. That worked, but then
she started barking when we were gone. Our neighbors complained.
We tried a bark collar. It didn't work. We tried everything we knew
to do. Our neighbors still complained. So, finally we just had to put her
to sleep. That was the last week of October 1999. I still cry because
I miss her. She was so loyal and loving.
Yet somehow I believe she must
be in "dog heaven" because God cares for all of his creatures.
