Jewel Beans
Where oh where can my Jewel be?
In memory of Jewel Beans (aka "Beanie"), our Australian Shepherd-Lab mix
who lived all 16 months of her happy life giving love to her family and
everyone she met. She drove us all crazy, but now that she's gone, we
miss her more than we thought possible. The following tells what
happened through the eyes of our 12-year-old daughter, to the tune of
"Last Kiss" by Pearl Jam (originally made popular by J. Frank Wilson in
the 70's).
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my Beanie when I leave this world
We were waitin' at home for the fireworks to start
They have 'em every year right in the park
We opened the door to go outside
How could we know our puppy would die?
She heard the booming sound and her paws hit the ground
Runnin' so fast, clear out of sight
I screamed out her name, knew it wasn't right
I took off after her into the bright night
Where oh where can my Jewel be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my Beanie when I leave this world
I ran as fast as my legs could go
Mom followed with my sister in tow
There in the road straight ahead
My dog lay still and I knew she was dead
The car never stopped, didn't even hit the brake
My tears fell and I felt my knees shake
I touched her coat, it was so soft and warm
That's when my mom came and took my arm
Jewel's soul was gone, she had no heartbeat, no breath
The blank fear in her eyes said her life had met death
What should we do? I asked my dad
He picked her up in a blanket he had
I petted her fur, I kissed her
Our last kiss
I said goodbye to the love I'd miss
Now she's gone and nothin' seems right
I'll never forget my dog or that night
Where oh where can my Jewel be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my Beanie when I leave this world
