Chino

1991-1998
Chino, our wise and wonderful Shar Pei, belonged first to my brother, Bill,
and his wife, Laurel; joining me and my son, Jacob, upon Bill's death from
kidney failure in 1995. Bringing Chino home with us following Bill's death
helped to ease our sense of loss - like having memories of Bill close by.
Chino was an all around perfect companion: loyal, protective, loving,
intuitive, and fun. His first task each morning was to check on his boy:
he would quietly approach Jacob's bed and look into his sleeping face.
Once assured that Jacob was okay, he would race outside to patrol his yard.
Chino was such a strong yet gentle creature, and a comforting presence in
our lives. We miss him terribly: his wise old wrinkly face, his kisses on
our knees, his gentle gnawing on our arms and hands, his "gakking" our
clean clothes, his indignant tolerance of baths, doing tricks for treats
(cheese), playing tug-of-war, and sitting on our feet. But most of all, we
miss his unconditional love. We love and miss you, our one-of-a-kind
friend, Chino.
You're forever in our hearts, Momma and Jacob
