Bumpers
Today, my family lost a very dear canine friend named BUMPERS. His story is
sad.
He was blind from cataracts and his age kept him from being able to handle
surgery.
Bumpers had a disease called Cushions Syndrome. Cushions is a cancerous
tumor on the
Pancreous. We new this was a fatal disease when we adopted him from the
vets office that
my wife works at.
See, Bumber's original family left him there uncaringly
when they learned of this
disease. Knowing that he was going to simply live out his life in a vets
kennel we excepted him
into our family. Our daughters Rebecca (9) and Ashley (4) as well as my
wife and I gave him the
love and respect that he deserved. He was so sad and pitiful looking when
he first entered our
family. His head hung low. He was fat looking from a combination of the
tumors and the lack of
exercise in the kennel.
Within a few weeks he learned our voices and
learned his way around
our living room so not to be bumping into walls. Unknowingly he had an
abscess on he rear right
hip that ruptured one day all over my older daughter as she was carrying
him down the stairs to
take him walk. It healed and he gained a whole new happiness.
When anyone
returned home
he actually began to greet them at the door. Jumping and skipping like no
one had ever seen
him do before. This always brought a smile to our faces to know he was
doing so much better
and showing how happy we where making him.
Over the past week we discovered that bumpers had advanced diabetes. We did
all we could
to control it but the vets who had grown to love him while he lived in
their offices always treated
him without cost to us could not get this problem under control. He began
losing his bowel functions
until they final shut down. He then began vomiting. It was finally time.
Today, I made the hardest
decision ever and Bumper's was put to sleep. We took pictures before doing
so to simply remind
us of the best pet ever.
